The summer transfer window is appearing as though it could be a busy one for Chelsea and head coach Thomas Tuchel.
After deciding against bolstering their armoury with any new additions in January, the Blues, who will return to Premier League action on Monday evening when they face Everton at Stamford Bridge, are highly likely to loosen the purse strings on their transfer kitty in the summer and aim to put a fresh stamp on the squad Tuchel inherited from former Blues chief Frank Lampard.
It has been widely reported that Tuchel has pinpointed a centre-back and a new striker as his top priorities, with the likes of David Alaba, Niklas Sule and Erling Haaland having been heavily linked with moves to Stamford Bridge.
Whilst a raid on the Bundesliga this summer is already appearing likely, the Blues have now identified another Bundesliga star that could be seen as a useful addition to Tuchel’s squad.
The man in question is highly-rated RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate.
According to a report by German publication Sport Bild, as cited by the Express, the Blues hold an interest in the 21-year-old Frenchman and would be keen on getting a deal done for him this summer, in an attempt to bolster their defensive options.
In recent years, Leipzig have had a tendency for developing highly-rated central-defenders, including Dayot Upamecano, who has agreed to join Bayern Munich ahead of the start of next season, despite being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.
However, the Blues believe they have an advantage over the other suitors in the race to sign Konate because of Tuchel’s assistant, Zsolt Low, who has a previously worked with the defender.
Low and Konate worked together during the former’s time at Leipzig when he worked as an assistant to Ralf Rangnick and Ralph Hasenhuttl, who is now, of course, in charge of Southampton, and Chelsea believe that could be a major boost in their hopes of getting a deal over the line for the highly-rated centre-back.

Chelsea transfer guru Marina Granovskaia is now hoping that the Blues can use Low as an extra motivator in any potential deal, with the prospect of Konate linking up with Tuchel’s right-hand man once again potentially seen as a bonus.
As outlined above, though, Chelsea are not alone in the race to sign Konate as both Arsenal and Manchester United are also keen. The defender, who is under contract at the Bundesliga club until the summer of 2023, is valued at around £43million.
